Photographer: Miranda Suess

One of Jersey City’s headshot and portrait branding photographers - I support entrepreneurs, influencers and business professionals to help elevate their brands with updated photos of themselves. I encourage all my clients to pamper themselves before a headshot photo session, and one of the ways is to hire a professional makeup artist to make them feel confident before their photo shoot.

Let’s talk Makeup tips for Headshots

Nine tips to prepare for your headshot makeup appointment

  1. Clean and Moisturize your skin. No SPF, as spf can whiten your face when the photographer uses flash

  2. As you book your makeup appointment, please make sure you specify makeup application style - if you prefer makeup glam or a soft glam makeup application. See photo examples below.

  3. Hair can be styled however you wish, but Richa will have clips to pin it back for proper makeup application

  4. Please message @ArtistrybyRicha if there are any skin allergies/sensitivities you have to makeup products

  5. Prior to your appointment, please share with @ArtistrybyRicha a recent headshot or link to your social media so she can become familiar and prepared for a successful makeup application.

  6. To speed up your makeup appointment, please limit cell phone use and any distractions like pets, calls/texts/emails, and children.

  7. Like most makeup artists on social media, they have to keep up with marketing their services with video and photo content. Sometimes this means before and after makeup application or the final face reveal. Do prepare to be filmed/photographed with your final makeup look.

    • If you prefer not to have a before/no makeup look on social media, please let Richa know that you are more comfortable with the final look posted on her social media account.

  8. A makeup artist would prefer a setup near window light along with a cleared/clean table and adjustable barstool for you to sit in.

    • If you do not have an adjustable barstool, that would be helpful to mention to Richa as she can bring one to the appointment.

    • If you can’t move a cleared off table near a window light, that’s okay. Please let Richa know so that she can bring her lighting kit to apply makeup to you in a well lit area near a clean table.

  9. Please speak up if you do not like something about your makeup application

How much time should you plan for makeup services

Artistry by Richa says that it can take up to ninety minutes. Please clear off your schedule for at least 90 minutes for one hour of makeup application, about 10 minutes for final touch ups and 20 minutes for photo/social media content.

Travel fee for Richa’s makeup appointments

You can expect your travel fee waived for makeup sessions with The Jersey City Photographer, at my in-home portrait studio in Jersey City. Otherwise, Artistry by Richa does charge a $50-$100 travel fee to provide makeup application services in your home within a 30min-1hr commute of her home.

Although Richa wouldn’t charge a travel fee for makeup application at my The Jersey City Photographer’s in-home photo studio, keep in mind, I do charge an extended space rental fee of $40 for 90 minutes. Please inquire if you want to get ready at the place of your headshot session at the time of booking.
